I-TUBDAY

Jane of Page 101, is an Engineer who writes from Taiwan. She is my sister Noeda's high school batch and her sister, Flynn, was also my classmate and a friend. Our Mamas were also buddies who chit-chat after the Sunday masses at Acop, Tublay, Benguet long time ago.

Now, we found each other again through the net as we talk about our children and upload their pictures at 'friendsters' like a calendar of - "here's my baby's day 1, day 2, day 3......"
Tublay Municipal Hall

Jane posted: '
Taga Baguio Ka Isu?' (Are You From Baguio?) in her blog. We both agreed that its more appropriate if the title would be - 'Ay Igorot Ka Isu'?( Are You An Igorot?). Ayy Jane, maybe we add 'Iddi'(before) to make it : 'Ay....Isu Iddi?'.

To continue our list 0f - "You Are From Tublay If":
1. Ammom nga ni Jane ket taga Acop...hehehe(ituloy mo tani rumwar manen pagka-cornyk).

7. Hitch ride, stand by the toll gate.
8. You know the political clans.

9. (an extension of no. 8) - if you know that the pontino's, cosalan's and acop's (+ cosente's and velasco's) are politically inclined families.
10. if you know that dec. 8 is the town fiesta and binubudan is sold in the streets (yummy, i miss binubudang kamoteng kahoy ya)
11. if you know Fr. Val - a chubby cute priest who once served in Tublay (learned he's now married)
12. if you know that Mrs. Leyba once thought Physics in San Jose High School (and our schoolmates would tease us as favorites beacause we're from Acop)
13. if you remember that passing by Tomay's dung stores is one of the dreaded moments in a jeepney ride to Tublay (BTW, the chicken dung stalls transferred from Tomay to somewhere after Shilan, near the "mushroom" site.

hahaha dear. just as i thought, the younger lee was one of the reasons you came to attend the masses before. he's actually the one i mentioned in on of my comment's one of your entries, who sticks out his tongue (agdildilat).

I've known Ellen Acop (maiden name) for years now, and I believe the place Acop was named after her ancestors. She is cousin to the Romeo and Rey Acops, who are with the Philippines National Police, I think. If not, I stand corrected.
Cheers and goodhealth.

lovelyn

Bill, the 'sakristans' are not really the reason, They're just a PART of it hehehe....

Yes Trublue, Acop was named after their ancestors. I think they are related. Rey and Romeo did not grew up in Tublay though but its where their roots are from.

I'll ask Jane to add up about the Acops as they are his neighbors.

CHERYL L. DAYTEC

My husband's lovey-dove before me is from Acop, Tublay. He says the people there are warm and beautiful. How about that?

Fr Val served in Acop? He was my student in law school (That is how it goes, folks. You get to teach even the much older ones.). Yes, he is married to a doctor. He is now a lawyer. Magaling yun. He is my friend, too.

lovelyn

Got me curious there Ma'am Chyt! Most of us know each other by family names at Tublay. I wonder who's the ex?hehehe...

Yes father Val served at Tublay before he was sent to Bontoc. A well loved priest who made lots of girls 'kilig'. I was in high school back then when he used to have lunch after mass at my lola's house in Ambassador Tublay.

Kindly give our regards if he still remember us. I'm Marlene Baldos' cousin if he'll asked.

So the former Fr. Val is now a lawyer. Yeah, he should be a smart one. I love his sermons before. He was such a charming guy :) that many girls cried when he said his last mass in Acop. The old church was a wooden one and couldn't really accommodate that much. Is the doctor wife that somebody who used to be a novice? hmmnnn...

Lovelyn, I really don't much about the Acops even if my father's roots are connected to them.

I never lived in Tubday but when I was younger I remember the busses going north always stop by Tubday...ijay sango ti Public rest room ngay...I can still imagine the peddlers with their "Bilao" yelling "Balut,Penoy, Mani yod'ta".Adda pay "tinudok ken Turon"....my personal favorite is Balut of course(sluuuuurp!!!)

Sometime 1992,I visited a creek down there with my friends Jane(now Dr.Lingbanan-)and my then special friend Maynard Fuentes.Naglammin ti danum ijay.Dinagking samet ti name na jay lugar.

In 2000, my husband was assigned there so my first born Kaisser went to school(day care) at the building atop the police station.Until now ket malaglagip na pay lang.I promised him, next time we will visit the place...

Wonder if you girls at that time, were paying attention to the liturgy, most likely the answer is a resounding NO!, haha...
It did crossed my mind to become a priest ONLY so I can listen to the confessions of the various species of people, all walks of life.
I wouldn't probably last long coz I might be saying, WOW! sige say some more!, or LOL, or just giggling inside the confession box.
A priest becoming a lawyer, wow! that's an achievement, good for him. Cheers again and goodhealth.

@trublue, wen met ah, somehow, we also paid attention to the liturgy. these are just girly reactions as we recall our younger days :)
@miss buguias, since analiza restaurant in Shilan was built, the bus and jeepney drivers chose to have the stopover there so eventually, the peddlers in Acop were gone but the famous Acop restroom is still in place, hahahaha.
Dinangking I guess is not a part of Tublay but already a part of Trinidad. Hhhmmmn, I know all three you mentioned. We call her Manang Grace. I don't remember the face of Maynard but I know he has a brother named Marlon and that place/school is along our way because we live in the mountains past the municipal hall.
hala lovelyn, pardon me, i took the liberty to "talk" to your friends na. ")

lovelyn

I'm more than happy Jane. The more inputs the merrier! I'm very thankful ketdi a.

Weih, amtam ngu gayam ima istorjan ma novice hehehe, chismak na etich!

Only Tito Acop's family I know of and his son Ray who had been working with my Dad before. And of course, Tito Jr.

Ciao Ms Buguias!

You made my mouth water with that Balut.

Great! How can we forget that Public CR? Its a historical heritage come to think of it. Its been of help and been there longer than us. hehehe. I'll include it in our list.

Tublay is also one of the preferred nga maidistinuan ti police who are from Baguio, La Trinidad and those who wants to be near the city.

Hehehe Trublue,

It was really funny picturing you in that confession box as to how you described it. You can never be a pries in that case!

No, we were glued and attentively listening 'met a'. Father Val is very good and you'll look forward to his sermons. He is good in delivering his anecdotes and jokes... which most of it I've read from his books borrowed by my cousin back then. Charm, he has.

thanks again and cheers!

14.Did you know that the internet place at Acop was pulled out because it's hard to pick up an internet signal(sayang,it's where my sisters go to update their friendster's profile)

Jane

noeds, yayks, i didn't know that. when we went home last summer, the internet shop along the main road in Acop is quite ok with the internet service but when it rained, aw, i had to go home because the signal is intermittent. I heard there's more shops in TSHI as well.

lovelyn

Ay isu Sis Mats? So Tim doesn't have a job anymore?

Globe doesn't have signal from Tampua's residence to Caponga before. I don't know if that is still going on until now.

Thanks for the add sister.

thanks you still remember my uncle Bishop Galasgas

lovelyn

You're welcome anonymous!

Father Gas was the one who helped my Mom and other Ambassador folks build our first church in Km 18. I remember when he first visited the proposed site and measured it with his footsteps(id-dang). A well loved priest and will always be remembered.
