MOTHER'S DAY AFTER 2 BOYS

"BUONA FESTA PER TUTTI LE MAMMI!", as they say it here. AUGURI PER TUTTI NOI(cheers to us all)!

Its just another celebration we barely remember the date it falls. You'd only be aware of the day when greetings everywhere fan out the feast. For some its a special day because other say it is. But for most of us, its one of the best time to be articulate on our forever indebtedness to mothering itself and to the person or persons who gave us this.

Yesterday, I came home from my Friday 3 hour part time job and found Lukie's gift waiting for me in my closet. A book mark, a card and 4 pages of poems with drawings of Mama he made at school. He read me all what he wrote and of course, tears can't stop but flow specially when you're holding it back. Although the teachers told them what to write and helped them do these gifts, still is magical to hear and know that you're appreciated.

Then after having my lunch of grated carrots and rocket leaves topped with tuna that Boogs had prepared, I took Lukie and Dylan out for a walk to the ice cream parlor. Giving now my husband a quiet house for that sleep he needed before going to his night shift work.

We dropped by for some groceries before heading home and started cooking for dinner. 4 "busy" pots on the stove while I wash the dishes from lunch are easier to do than to shush the kids every minute, so as not to wake their father up. Then we ate. Boogs left and I took Dylan to bed. The little one slept, Lukie played with his PSP and I washed the dishes... yeah, again. I made sure the kitchen is clean and remembered to load the washing machine.

Just as I sat down and switched on the laptop for that long awaited rest, Dylan woke up coughing and vomited all over him and on our bunk. Fully dozed, I transferred him on Lukie's bed so I can change the sheets. Then he vomited again soaking Lukie's linens, quilt and all. Our bed is now clean, I took Dylan back and he slept sweetly for the rest of the night while I brush off all his soiled clothes and beddings.

These run down of my mothering around is not to count what I did but to compare it with my mom who did not have two kids but 6. How was it possible for her? Aside from a full time mom, she also works as a wholesaler of vegetables at the Baguio Public market where she has to wake up early as 4 o'clock A.M. to catch her 18 kilometers ride to the city. She also does the inventory of my dad's farming and contracting business and would often see her exhausted at night calculating fertilizer expenses to bags of cement used that day. Then yes, there's us to feed and bathe. I just can't figure out how she did it with no microwave, washing machine, prams and pushchairs. To think also that age gap between us 6 siblings is not more than two years. Mama did all these for 12 years before Anemia took her.
I really can't remember if I ever made Mother's Day special for my Mama Normie. I don't know if I made her a card from school, greet her or did I ever let her feel I treasured everything of her. A twelve year old is not young to know and I will forever regret that. Nevertheless, I am sure that her BIG and unconditional LOVE will always understand me. This I know because I am now a mother too.

PAGE 36: MY BIRTHDAY POST

I wrote on my former teacher's wall at Facebook days ago, during his birthday, "Aging alert should be toned down but not, when you lived a happy life. Let it be a deafening "alarm" to those who haven't...". Of which, I'm not quite sure if I made sense.

On second thought, "So if you're not happy, you better forget the date of your birth? Then the "third eye"(hahaha) made sense, "Its your choice, you decide!", she said (or saw it coming).

How do you define happiness by the way? Is it when your son's class card got perfect grades in all his subjects except Science which is just less one from the perfect score? Thanks to Lukie, my eldest he then defined it for me. What if there's more? Like your other son, at the age of three, could read when he can't even clearly talk yet. Then Dylan just made me happy when he read me "Spot Goes Splash" by Eric Hill before he went to sleep. How about a husband who is there to scratch your back or warm your feet when you get into bed? Good thing I have Boogie to fill this part.

Others say that there's a greater context to it and not just being at bliss. Some would find rejoicing from the hopes they see in others' eyes - the doctor from his patient, the priest from his congregation, Samaritans who raise money to help the less fortunate, rescuers who brave the storm to save lives and the list goes on.

There are also some who find joy from being financially successful - buying Ferrari cars, putting up big houses, travelling etc...

To be free and unattached, keeping their status single, is heaven for some.

Its really all about deciding what makes us happy and any reason other people has is no lesser than ours. Every one has the right for it!

As Thesaurus.com wrote - contentment, optimism, peace of mind, well being are synonymous to what I am "blabbering" on my 36th birthday. Let's choose to be it - to be happy. Let's not go for the opposite - depression is tiring, exhausting and keeps you in the dark (figuratively and literally). Life is so short for sadness to control our little given time. Let's decide to LIVE...

So there, HAPPY IS MY BIRTHDAY! Then to you ALL, HAVE A HAPPY-HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! Virtual BIG HUGS from my part of the GLOBE! CHEERS and GOOD HEALTH nga kuna ni TRUBLUE(where ever he is)!

THE SECOND YEAR

If this blog has a mind of it's own, it had already confronted me - big time! How could I have missed it's second year of "absorbing" my everything - from my joys to pains, my doltishness to make believes. A good listener too, regardless of how nauseous and repetitious all the malady of discontent I threw in.

Just like any other person whom we always take for granted. People we give less care, as to how they feel, because we're always confident they'll always be there(sounds like a song hehehe). Sometimes we forget they'd be the first person or the only one at that, who'll hold our hand when those dying breath are.... HEY, CUT "ME" OFF, WILL 'YA! All I was suppose to write is I missed this blog's SECOND YEAR ANNIVERSARY(Geeezzwizzz) .

I happened to be reading my old posts and came across this page:
FIRST YEAR ANNIVERSARY dated June 16 of 2008. It doesn't call for a celebration, I may say, but it should have. It had helped me, in a way, to stay sane even though laughing at yourself is not sane at all hahaha...

I'm sorry my BLOG. Belated 2nd year of "attempting to recount"...
Auguri!

DANNY BOY'S BIRTHDAY

"I'm 65 now", my Daddy said after I greeted him on the phone a while back. Then uttered, "Lakayen ti taon (I'm already old...)". But "defensively" added, "Ngem (but), I'm still young and strong!".

I should have told him, "Nobody's doing interrogation here hahaha...".

Okay garud Dad, in my book, you're always "young and strong".

Here is the song I've heard from many people singing it to my father. His friends, siblings, constituents etc.. Its only now that I have read the lyrics by heart. So beautiful, I didn't know:

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling

From glen to glen, and down the mountain side

The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying

'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.

But come ye back when summer's in the meadow

Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow

'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow

Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying

And I am dead, as dead I well may be

You'll come and find the place where I am lying

And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me

And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be

If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me

I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

FOOL'S FALSE DAY

"You've been punked!", that's how they call it now. Or at least for me, who watches the show (sometimes). Happy fooling around folks. Be gentle hehehehe....

Was pranked once, back in fourth year high school. My first and last, which made me mark this day. Juline, a schoolmate, told me I was being asked to report at the guidance office. I thought the new guidance counselor was fed up of me for not liking her. Oh well, being young and inconsiderate, Ma'am Mabutas absorbed my anger towards the leaving of Sir Ren(our school's former guidance counselor). Old story resolved, I was sorry and Ma'am Mabutas understood. I thought I would be grilled for that.

So I went to the office and Ma'am De Leon, our English teacher and Ma'am Mabutas were there. So I've known, I've been fooled. I went back to our classroom and I saw Galo, another classmate of mine. I told him Ma'am Mabutas wants him in her office (yeah, walang(no) originality) and I told him, "halaka, ag-ung-unget pay"(she's angry). He went. Sweet revenge!

Let's "paint the town yellow", here are some Trivia on Facts, History, and Meanings of the Color Yellow ... from Trivia-Library,com

A collection of facts, history, meanings, uses, phrases, and lore about the color yellow

COLORFUL FACTS ABOUT COLOR
YELLOW

History and Lore: To the ancient Greeks, yellow denoted air. Leonardo da Vinci wrote that yellow represented earth. To the Navaho, the western mountains are yellow and bring the twilight. To the Hopi, yellow is north. In India it is the symbol of the merchant and farmer, although at one time it was considered the dress of the ascetic. In some countries Jews were ordered by law to wear yellow clothing because of their alleged betrayal of Jesus. Judas was often depicted wearing a yellow robe signifying inconstancy, jealousy, and deceit. In 10th-century France, the doors of felons, traitors, and criminals were painted yellow.

Daily Uses: Because yellow has good visibility qualities, it is commonly used to denote caution; for example, in the yellow light before the red light signal and in traffic-lane dividers. It is also used to emphasize areas where hazards are apparent and as the symbol for quarantine. Yellow is an appropriate color for a room used for studying because it has a stimulating effect on the mind. Its intensity is also good for stairs and corridors that don't receive natural light.

Yellow is found in such foods as banana squashes, corn, yellow peppers, sweet potatoes, bananas, lemons, grapefruit, and pineapples.

LA BEFANA 2009

School will start tomorrow for the kids after their 2 weeks Christmas vacation. And today, La Festa Della Befana marks the end of our 'festa' (festive) mood. I had a post here: LA BEFANA 2008 and last night we had our La Befana 2009. Read the link for the origin of this Italian tradition.

It wasn't the same as last year that every 'comune' had their own Befana to burn. It used to be sort of a parade who has the best, tallest and biggest witch. Just shows that even the 'strega'(witch) is affected with the ongoing "global economic crisis".

Our community didn't have one (Befana burning) so we went to my sister Noeda's neighborhood, Ca' Ballarin. You will see here: LA BEFANA 2008, that last year Ca'Ballarin had the best 'strega'. But last night, we were only seeing a big fire and people were asking for the witch. The effigy was so tiny you wouldn't notice it was even up there.

Regardless, Lukie had fun waiting for his "socky" to be handed by the Befana after the burning ceremony. The organizers hired some singers and put up stalls for free chocolate drink, hot wine and Panettone. Dylan stayed home with Boogs because he would be scared of the fireworks anyway. Good thing he did because he had a fever later that night.

This morning my kids had sweets from the strega and not coal. I'm thinking, since almost everybody is home today because La Befana is a non-working holiday. Everyone is probably nibbling chocolates, young and old hehehe. Well, its good for this cold weather and not everyday that the strega is this generous... so, cheers to chocolates and La Befana.

TREADMILL (Christmas Story 3)

She was trying to "help" his husband think on what to get her for Christmas here: GANDA'S TAG FROM WILL. It was in "desperation" why she had to write what she wanted because many times she caught him browsing the net(eBay)for a laptop. She was confident his better half would want her organize her writings and he would be willing to give her - her own personal computer. So, the "treadmill" was her way of disapproving subtly with out declaring war(lol). "Heck, we don't need another computer!" her mind spoke.

They have a store room underground and the wife asked the husband for the keys that weren't on it's usual place. He beseeched what his wife needed from the room and volunteered to get it for her. Huh? Strange! Volunteered? Strange! Then the third time she needed something from downstairs, he gave her the keys. "Oh mheeen, where's the love?...hahaha... where's the enthusiast of getting things for me?", again, the wife's mind spoke.

Worst than a child, he seriously "demanded" to open his present when its more than a week before Christmas. "Why?", the wife asked and he replied, "Nakita mon ti gift ko(you already saw my gift)!".... Huh?... "When? Why? Where?" she asked in protest.

"Makikita dita matam!"(it shows in your eyes), the husband "accused her" with out the benefit nor reasonable to what ever doubt there is(hahaha). And she swore, she's not guilty and firmly stood her stand, "I haven't seen what ever that is!".

There goes the surprise, he gave it away hahaha... The wife thought, if its a treadmill, it would be too bulky in the storeroom and she would have surely seen it. If its a laptop, the store room would be a dangerous keeping place for such an expensive thing because its damp and full of junk. "Hmmmnnn, we put all the bikes down there during winter and only me who doesn't have a bike. Ahah, SO ITS A BIKE!", she guessed. But, the husband said no and the wife never went in the store room to "investigate"(lol).

Christmas Eve. Everyone opened their gifts except the wife. The husband said she'll have to wait for Christmas morning. "DARE!" the wife answered. "... And you will never get "lucky" in a million years!", she annoyingly added. Bribing never fails to work, the husband stormed the cold and went to get her wife's gift.

When the kids went to sleep and the couple were sipping their wine, the wife wore her new jewelries from Fossil and her "other" presents. The bike was still next to the Christmas tree while they were talking:

SHE: I thought its a treadmill.

HE: It would be too big for our small house and the kids will ruin it knowing how they're fond of pressing "buttons".

SHE: Yeah and I prefer the bike. I can just imagine our rides and picnics on summer..... I thought its a laptop.

HE: Dream on honey!

Then they kissed the dawn away...

LUKIE'S GIFT(Christmas Story 2)

Christmas morning. Lukie wasn't as enthusiastic as he did during our gift opening on Christmas eve. I haven't seen "this look"(picture below) he had last night.

Flash back.......just after Halloween, Lukie asked me to prepare for Christmas. He told me that Santa might be very busy and can't see our home if we don't decorate early. He came from school the next day and had his request granted. From then on every grace before meals he adds, "....... for the love of Christmas........ the house is ready....... Santa is coming".

Then my son made his Christmas list and also did his brother's. Its all up for Santa now to decide if Lukie had been "naughty or nice".

Back to Christmas morning.....I was puzzled why my son's excitement wasn't showing at all, so I asked:

MAMA: "Lukie, why aren't you excited with your gifts? Open it honey!" ......

LUKIE: (looked at me seriously and said in Italian) "Mama, I know what's inside it. I wrote the list, remember?".

DYLAN'S SHOW(Christmas Story 1)

Christmas Lunch 2008. As we were all seated and about to feast on the food before us, with my sister's family and some neighbors joining our banquet, Dylan stood on one of the chairs and sang... "Appyyyy bitdey ehhh yooo.......!"

Happy Birthday my son intoned dauntlessly. He belt out his song lost in the magic of his 2 years old innocence. Then everyone laughed and we said "bravoo!!!".

True enough, Dylan was right! We should have joined him in his singing. Its Jesus Christ's birthday - the reason for all these holiday cheers. We thought we knew but how many of us sang Happy Birthday amidst all these gifts, food and this event gathering or reuniting our families?

SEASONS OF THE HEART

Bees And Ducks was my entry a year ago for remembering my Mama Normie's day. She should have been 54 now and would love to hear this song -Seasons Of The Heart. My mother is a fan of John Denver and loves to sing Perhaps Love.

When I turned 33 last year, I realized my Mama passed away at the same age. Right there and then, I decided to write more about my kids. I've also started composing them letters which are stored in our PC. Here's my very first 2 paragraphs:

My dear Lukie and Dylan,

Here's another of Mamas story for you to read when I will be no longer here to tell it to you. I lost my Mom at an early age and there's no day that I don't miss her. Im always wondering what were her thoughts, beliefs and what she feels on and about everything. I want to hear from her how she got angry or laughed with all the clutter I did when I was a toddler like you two.

Someday, I don't want you to feel the same - to be left out with questions and wishing I am still around to answer them.

I don't mean to sound morbid here, Ill fight to see you grow. Its just that, I didn't know my mom would leave us that soon too......

Going back to my Mom's birthday, I can't remember us celebrating her day but its so clear to me how she makes mine a "grand" one. Her hair set with curlers while she cooks, arranging flowers she bought and later dressing me up for the party..... Just among the many "happy childhood" she gave during the few years of her stay.

MORE BLESSED YEARS TO THEM ALL!

If last weeks "blog drought" was because of minor depression, this week would point the "blame" on birthdays. I wonder what would it be for next week?

I don't know if its also true with other 'Kababayans nga taga' abroad that Pinoys are fond of celebrations. Even for First Communion, a party is held. 'Ci sempre festa' (there's always a party) would irritate SOME old, bitter and racist Italian neighbors when Pinoys start to get the festivity going (lol).

For me, nothing wrong with parties except for the "diet ruined". Hu, hu, hu... the 6.6 lbs I lost from not eating rice for a month and a half came back just for the 4 birthdays we graced this week. I can't resist all these Filipino foods specially when it was prepared by others and I am just there to eat hehehe....

'Nakakahiya' if you'll not go when they'll personally ring you. Then they'll call you again making sure you are near their door. I always tell my self, "Okey, for my kids". Its one of the least I can do to show them "Filipinism"... through birthdays hehehe...

First it was Dan-Dan's birthday. He used to baby sit Lukie when I was still working and my... he would make a great father someday. My son is very good in judging characters and very selective on whom to trust. When Lukie is sleepy, bored and scared, he holds my and Boogie's neck. Well, our eldest will hold Dan-Dan's neck when we're all in the same room.

Next day was Tita Fe's turn. She jokingly said her age stopped at 47 ten years ago. Do the math, how old is she now? Her older 'apos', Feona, Lance and Gelo didn't join her blow the cake. Only Yahra, Eisha and Francine did.

The next day was Jerome's 13th big day. He is Gerson's brother. I have no picture of him. I don't know if he has a 'friendster' account. its where I got Tita Fe's and Dan-Dan's photos.

Little James had his Christianing yesterday and because it was raining, we did not go. Her mom Billy is where most of us Filipinos in Venice send our remittance. She works for BPI and Equittable Bank.

And, today was Murielle's(at the middle, an old photo with Dylan and Lukie), 6th candle blowing. She is Boogie's 'inaanak'(goddaughter). Seems all Filipinos came out. Some I saw when Lukie was just a baby. "Ayyy, yan na ang pangalawa mo?"(your second? - reffering to our babies), was our line after years of meeting again.

FIRST YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Gracing My First was written a year ago. Means "A Raconteur's Attempt" may actually exist and tomorrow starts the pursuit(lol) of it's Biennial anniversary.

Sexy Myspace Comments

Its becoming a cliche when you're getting older to say, "time really flies so fast". Add another banality of - "Seems it was just yesterday" and you really are piling that age. No worries there, you can always say, "wisdom is gained, regardless... hahaha".

Its now safe to say that 365 days "flew so fast" and "seems it was just yesterday" when I was engrossed on what blog title, template and font I shall keep. I could still feel that sense of "I am just another blogger" which is now "vindicated" with: writing and talking to myself is fulfilling specially when I talk about the people and things I love.

With in my first year of blogging, it got me convinced that the first person: I, me and myself - is phasing out the old book of narcism. It gave a new definition to "talking about your self" and had become an effect of "technology enhancement". To say otherwise is to be left behind.

There was an attempt for this page to gain profit but I chickened out when I was to write about jeans I never wore or advertise movies I don't really want to watch. Its also time consuming to work out on maintaining your rank and requires blog hopping which for the moment is impossible when a toddler consumes most of your time.

Sexy Myspace Comments

Before I go far and lost track of why I am writing this... and all I was suppose to say is THANK YOU... I'm very grateful to all the readers who keep on coming back although you read the same words, same people and my same silly thoughts. Till the next anniversary when we will again say, "time flies so fast" and "seems it was just yesterday".
